There are many different forms of self expression for teens. Some are accepted by adults while others aren’t.
For me, my favorite form of self expression is my tattoo. It is a wonderful thing, and I have it for a good reason. There are many instances that I have had with adults saying, “You’re too young,” “You’re harming your body” and “You’re going to regret it,’’ but I haven’t and I never will.
They all think that getting a tattoo is impulsive, but every teen that I have met has used their tattoos for a way to express themselves or someone they’ve loved.
Mine shows my grandmother’s handwriting from the last birthday card I received from her before she passed away. Similarly, I know many others that have their tattoos as memorials, like one having a memorial tattoo for his grandfather in Mexico.
While there are some people that regret their tattoos, I’ll never regret mine. When I get tattoos, I make sure to get things that have meaning and also in places on my body that I won’t regret.
Placing is another thing that can be a cause to get the tattoo removed, but when it is completely thought out, there are things that can help you make the correct decision.
Places where skin doesn’t move as much are most convenient because they won’t stretch and look odd. So under the collarbone, on the ribs, and from the ankle and below are the best areas.
Overall, tattoos aren’t for everyone, but when a teenager gets it, it doesn’t mean that they want to rebel. Tattoos can show the things that teens have been through and be a way to cope from their experiences.
