If you were to go into my room, you would find a countdown that has hung above my desk for the last four years. Every year of high school, I counted the days that were left until summer vacation. For me, watching the days of school dwindle down until they eventually hit zero was a liberating feeling.
However, this year, every time I go home and mark another day off of my countdown, the feeling is bittersweet. While I am ready to begin a new chapter in my life, it pains me to leave behind the people who were pivotal in making my high school experience amazing. Although I will miss them, I know their impact on me will be eternal. Now, for one last time, I would like to celebrate these people by dedicating the rest of my letter to them.
To The Journal staff, your dedication to your writing, photos, design and art was truly inspiring to watch. Thank you for making my last year on The Journal so memorable.
Lucy and Ava, I couldn’t have asked for better co-leaders. Thank you for always being so understanding and supportive. It has been an honor to work alongside you both.
Mr. K, every day you walk into this building with a smile on your face and a story to share. This brightened my day more than you will ever know. Thank you for being the light I needed throughout the last four years.
Mr. Luers, AP U.S. history will forever be one of my favorite classes from high school. I hope you know that I admire the passion you have towards history and towards teaching your students why they should care about the world around them.
And finally, to my friends Harjas, Briley and Telilah, thank you for making the school days more bearable with your jokes and stories. SHS was a fun place because of you guys.
