The Journal Rewired

Sarah Bennett

Sarah Bennett, Culture Reporter

Hello, SHS students! My name is Sarah Bennett, and I am a senior and in my second year of The Journal. I love giving the news and spreading information about what is going on around me. I believe that writing for the Culture section is important because this world is very diverse and different. I enjoy learning about other cultures, religions and ideologies. This has helped me be more understanding of other people. It is crucial for students to read about our diverse world in order to learn respect and understanding. I speak English and Turkish. Speaking two languages has helped me develop friendships with new people. For example, over the summer I traveled to Turkey, and I was able to speak with different people there.  It was a pleasure to learn about different beliefs and ways of life. Running cross country and track has helped me gain important leadership and communication skills. Education is also very important to me. Knowledge is important because it combats ignorance. I am hoping to further my education after high school. Hopefully, I will become a journalist. I want to pursue this career because I want to report and tell the truth about the oppressed children in our world. I believe that I must never stay silent when others are oppressed because If I do, I am guilty of oppression myself. In order to get to that point in my career, I am starting small at SHS.
