The Journal Rewired

Mike Klopfenstein

Mike Klopfenstein, Adviser

Hi, I’m Mr. Klopfenstein, the faculty adviser for The Journal and The Journal Rewired. In many ways, I still feel like a kid. And, I act like one more than I’d like to admit, so it’s hard for me to come to terms with the fact that this is my 30th year of teaching. I teach English 10 and three different iterations of beginning journalism (Journalism, Sports Journalism and the semester elective journalism course), but advising The Journal is what I really love. I’m incredibly proud of this program and the Journal kids that make it happen.

My wife is a journalism teacher at Lawrence North, and when we’re not talking shop at home, we’re trying to corral our 8-year-old twin sons.

Fun facts: I’ve been to 49 of the 50 states (I’m coming for you, Alaska), and my streak of consecutive weeks in which I’ve walked over 80,000 steps has extended beyond four years now (#oldguyexercise). I love to travel, watch movies, read, hang out with my wife and coach my sons’ baseball teams. I hope you enjoy The Journal and Journal Rewired this year. I promise you that the kids are working hard to produce great work!
